Njuter i fulla drag Aldous Huxleys förtätade engelska i "The Perennial Philosophy" som skulle ha förändrat Sveriges öde när den efter sju år sent omsider kom i svensk översättning 1952 som "Den oförgängliga filosofin". Men vid den här tiden byggde svenskarna sitt Volksheim och var allra minst intresserade av de stora frågorna. I den engelskspråkiga delen av världen blev TPP en litteraturklassiker.
Här nedan bara ett i en aldrig sinande ström av fantastiska, upplyftande, fördjupande och ibland humoristiska citat utförligt kommenterade av Huxley och ibland tjänande som avstamp för allehanda exkurser och kritiska diskussioner av det västerländska kynnet:
"Listen to this!" shouted Monkey, "After all the trouble we had getting here from China, and after you specially ordered that we were to be given the scriptures, Ananda and Kasyapa made a fraudulent delivery of goods. They gave us blank copies to take away; I ask you, what is the good of that to us?"
"You needn't shout," said the Buddha smiling."...As a matter of fact, it is such blank scrolls as these that are the true scriptures. But I quite see that the people of China are too foolish and ignorant to believe this, so there is nothing for it but to give them copies with some writing on."
